Hello Folks,
Good news, the baby birds are now coming into the garden in droves. The young Blackbirds are grey brown in colour, the baby Sparrows are light brown and the Starlings have no white spots. There are also tiny Blue Tits and little spotty fronted Robins with no tail feathers. The adult Blackbirds are still taking beaks full of food because they are having two or three broods each year.
Our birding holiday was to “Shap” in the Lake District and was excellent with beautiful weather, a fine old Hotel and very good meals. The Shap Hotel stood in its own 12 acres of woodland and each day we saw lots of Red Squirrels and Dippers on the streams that ran through the grounds.
There were daily trips to many new Reserves. The group tally for bird species seen for the week was 108, not bad eh?
We had a wonderful time, did mean lots of travelling but it was all worth it.
Never mind, November’s holiday is a lot nearer as is to Somerset Levels.
More soon
