Natures Corner
Hello Folks,
A Happy New Year to all of you and I do hope that you all had a splendid Christmas.
Something that has stuck in my mind was the snow and very cold weather we had in mid-December. On one of the Saturdays, while it was snowing hard, I went to put out more bird food and scared the birds who all flew off to settle in the large bush at the bottom of our garden. When they were still, I counted over fifty Blackbirds plus nearly as many Starlings, what a sight.
That also reminds me of a giant Starling “Murmuration” we saw on my last birding trip. The Warden of the Reserve told us that there were at least half a million birds each evening, rising to over one million by Christmas time, a most unforgettable sight.
